Yesterday on a misty moisty morning run, we cut through the Roselawn Reservoir park, and almost ran over a deer. It just watched us until we were almost on top of it, and then scampered off into the brush. Another one was waiting for it just a few feet beyond us. It was a very special treat for running that last quarter mile, I guess.
That is the closest I have come to reaching touching distance of a large mammal since the time when I was a kid and our family roadster, the towering Horizon Miser was almost run off the road by a moose. All I remember of that scenario was moose knees.
Today was so lovely that the kids and I went to the park and had a picnic. On a walk around the lake, we saw a million geese, but also a blue heron, one of my favorite birds ever. I just felt that these two moments needed a record. It is amazing how much a couple of animals can energize the day.
