Grrr! Minx is Axed!

I'm very irritated to hear that the DC's line of comics aimed at older girls, Minx, has been cancelled. Regardless of whether they aimed this particular line well, or if they were fabulous works of art, it was just great to find smart, funny books about girls in the graphic section.

Don't get me wrong, fun books for and by women do end up in comics and manga, but while I am a big fan of the schloch and the tart, the Minx books were a good indication of neither, being thoughtful and lovely and a good read. They were good and there was more than one and best of all, until this announcement, there was the promise of more to come.

As a final note, although I'm sad to see them go, and I'd like to see the Minx books held up as a standard for quality graphics about girls, there were downsides. These were all focused on girls, but created by mostly men. I always want to see more women writers and artists as well as female characters, and Minx at least made a good start.
