Confederation by Tanya Huff

While I am not normally as reflective as I probably should be, lately I have been spending a lot of time thinking about my life, my five year plan, and the meaning of life. I’m not very good at it. I tend to break things.

And therefore, I’ve been reading this completely escapist and wonderful series “Confederation” that I had somehow missed from Tanya Huff. I have tried and failed in the past to get interested in her other books, but I’m all in for Confederation of Valor, Heart of Valor, and The Better Part of Valor. I could be convinced to branch out.

This is great stuff for the holiday easy S/F reader: spaceships, good and bad aliens, stiff upper lips, military cover-ups, and a tough female protagonist with a heart of gold. Torin Kerr does not have a lot of depth, but she makes up for it in kick-ass.

As I’ve said before, I am a sucker for real space Sci-Fi written by women. In this case (as seems to be the case almost all the time,) the author is Canadian. Is there some sort of prerequisite to great female Sci-fi coming out of Canada? I may have to move.
