I've got to recommend MORE Elizabeth Bear. I just finished "New Amsterdam" which contains airships, Tesla's wireless electricity, a U.S. still beholden to the British at the turn of the 19th Century, and vampires. Bear is just brilliant at making old things new, and for the most part tells a story with smart, witty characters who could be real people. (Except they are the undead or sorceresses or kings in hiding.) If she has a fault in this book it is to present several very separate stories that come together well in the end, but seem a bit forced together at the start. I still give this one a nice A.
