I'm never quite sure after my first time working at a new library if I have passed the muster or not. It is always good to hear from someone that I am doing things well, but mostly I hear a whole lot of nothing.
Last night, I started things out poorly my first time by walking into the library ten minutes before my shift with my kids. It was just a misunderstanding with the hubby, everyone was very accommodating, and I was there by 5, but I felt like I was crossing boundaries.
One of the big issues that I run into from library to library is how much leeway the kids have. I received two phone calls requesting to know if " 'Kid's name' was there" within the first ten minutes. "What, you mean sitting at the information desk? Not currently." I asked who was calling, and said I'd take the number, and was hung up on twice.
I just don't think that would happen most places, and it was kind of unnerving. I did page the person when it sounded like his mom.
